MU Men's Lax Tops Wilkes

The Misericordia University men's lacrosse team used a big first quarter on the way to a 17-6 win over Wilkes, Wednesday night at Mangelsdorf Field.

The Cougars jumped out to an 8-0 lead and never looked back.

Robert Wagner led the Cougars with five goals and two assists and Carson Venis had three goals and an assist.  Wagner moved past Chris Fleming into second place on MU's all-time scoring list with 216 career points.

Michael Kilgallon scored three goals and Ryman Vandenburg had two goals and an assist while Kyle Vandenburg scored twice.

Zach Kuhar had a goal and an assist and Jared Pelliccione added a goal.

Spencer Sundeberg had five ground balls and five caused turnovers and Trey Stasse added four ground balls.

Matt Coates made six saves in goal to earn the win and Chris Straub had five saves in relief.

Wagner sandwiched a pair of goals around a goal by Kilgallon to give MU a 3-0 lead less than five minutes into the game.

Pelliccione made it 4-0 and K. Vandenberg and Kilgallon both scored twice over the final 7:10 to put MU up, 8-0.

Wagner scored on a buzzer-beater to end the first half and the Cougars opened the second half with four straight goals.

The Cougars are 10-3 overall and 4-1 in the MAC Freedom and will visit FDU-Florham, Saturday.
