Cougars Down Keystone, Split Season Series

The Misericordia University baseball team took a non-conference game versus Keystone, 12-7, Wednesday at Tambur Field.

Garrett McIlhenny went 2-2 with two walks, four runs scored and four stolen bases. Max Oliver picked up the win after allowing just one run over six innings with four strikeouts.

Brock Bollinger finished 2-3 with a double, two runs and four RBI.

Owen VanNewkirk drove in two and Austin Miles had a triple and two RBI. Brady Madden collected two hits and an RBI, and Brendan Gray and Connor Maryniak both added an RBI.

After the Giants scored a run in the top of the first, the Cougars answered with a five-run bottom half of the frame. Madden tripled down the right-field line to score McIlhenny and MU loaded the bases before Miles' two-run single through the right side. VanNewkirk scored on a failed pickoff attempt and Gray added an RBI-double.

The Cougars kept the momentum up in the second inning, adding three more runs. McIlhenny scored on a Vosburg fielder's choice and VanNewkirk singled to right to plate Bollinger and Vosburg.

Bollinger delivered a two-run single in the sixth to extend the Cougar lead to 10-1.

In the eighth, Bollinger responded to a Giants rally with a two-run double to give the Cougars a five-run lead, and the Cougars never looked back.

Matthew Lanzendorfer picked up the save after coming on for three innings of relief and striking out three.
