MU Rally Comes Up Short in Completion of Game 1

The Misericordia University baseball team's ninth-inning rally came up just short as the Cougars dropped the first game of the MAC Freedom Championship series to Arcadia, 10-9.

Trailing 10-7 heading to the ninth inning of the game that was suspended due to darkness, Friday, the Cougars scored twice, but left two runners on base.

Joe Comins led off with a walk and Brady Madden was hit by a pitch. Derrick Vosburg walked to load the bases and Brock Bollinger singled through the left side to drive in a run.

Owen VanNewkirk got the Cougars within a run with a sacrifice fly, but the Cougars left runners on second and third.

The Cougars must win game two to force a decisive game tomorrow.



The opening game of the MAC Freedom Baseball Championship series at Arcadia was suspended in the top of the ninth inning, Friday.

The game will resume at noon Saturday with Misericordia trailing, 10-7. Game two will follow upon completion of the first game.

The 'if-necessary' game will played Sunday.

Derrick Vosburg hit a grand slam in the top of the seventh inning to give Misericordia a 7-6 lead, but Arcadia answered with a two-out grand slam in the bottom of the eighth to back in front.

The Cougars took a 2-0 lead in the top of the second on consecutive singles by Vosburg, Brock Bollinger and Owen VanNewkirk and a wild pitch.

Arcadia tied the game in the bottom of the second and went ahead in the fifth. The Knights score three times in the sixth to take a 6-2 lead.

Connor Maryniak singled with one out in the seventh and Garrett McIlhenney walked in front of Joe Comins' RBI-single. Brady Madden walked to load the bases and Vosburg homered to right field to give the Cougars a 7-6 lead.

Arcadia used a two-out grand slam in the eighth to regain the lead and the game was halted at end of the inning.

Vosburg, McIlhenney and VanNewkirk had two hits each for MU.

Isaac Snyder started on the mound for the Cougars and struck out five over five innings.
