Joseph Baldachino scored a career-high 27 points to lead the Misericordia University men's basketball team to an 83-77 win at Wilkes, Wednesday.
Kevin Lazdowsky added 16 points and
Nick Hornung had 10 points and a team-high seven rebounds.
Baldachino was 6-10 from three-point range as the Cougars shot 11-20 from deep while Lazdowsky scored half of his points from the free throw line (8-10).
The Cougars used a late run in the first half to take a 37-23 halftime lead and then held off a late Wilkes rally.
Leading 20-16 with 7:44 to play in the first half,
Dewin Concepcion,
Matt Marchetti and
Derek Smith hit consecutive three pointers to give the Cougars a 29-19 lead with 5:41 remaining.
Baldachino converted a three-point play and hit a three-pointer in a 20-second span to make it 35-21 with less than three minutes left in the first half.
Hornung's three-pointer in the opening minute of the second half gave the Cougars their biggest lead of the night, 40-25.
MU maintained a double-digit lead throughout much of the second half and led 73-61 on Baldachino's three-pointer with 3:02 to go.
The Colonels scored five points in the final 11 seconds for the final margin.
Misericordia will travel to FDU-Florham, Saturday.
