The Misericordia University men's basketball dropped a tough 85-80 overtime decision to Lycoming, Wednesday night on Dr. Michael Mould Court.
Kevin Lazdowsky led the Cougars with 23 points and nine rebounds and
Nick Hornung added 20 points and nine rebounds.Â
Nick Prociak added 15 points and seven rebounds and
Joseph Baldachino had 10 points.
The Cougars led for the first 37 minutes until Lyco took a 69-68 lead on a three-pointer with 2:40 remaining in regulation.Â
Nate Kreitzer put MU back in front with a pair of free throws. Lycoming went up 71-70 and Lazdowsky drilled a three-pointer from the left wing to give the Cougars a 73-71 lead with 1:32 to go.
Lycoming pulled even with 1:15 left to force OT.
Baldachino made two free throws to open the extra session and Lycoming tied it, 75-75, with 4:00 remaining.Â
Hornung's lay-in from in front gave the Cougars their last lead, 77-75, with 3:34 to play.
Following a Lycoming three-pointer, Lazdowsky made a free throw to tie the game, 78-78, with 1:29 left.Â
Another three-pointer gave the Warriors an 81-78 lead with 1:16 to play. Baldachino hit a pull-up jumper from the right elbow to get within one, but the Cougars were held scoreless the rest of the way.
The Cougars took a quick lead on Hornung's three-pointer from the top of the key and the teams traded baskets over the first 10 minutes before MU put together a 23-10 run in an eight-minute span.
Will Anozie hit a step-back three from the right corner for a 19-13 lead with 10:05 to play in the first half.
Lazdowsky scored on a driving layup from the left side and putback his own miss to bookend an 8-0 run to put MU up 27-15 with 4:37 to go.
Baldachino followed with a deep three-pointer from the top of the key and Lazdowsky hit a short pull-up jumper to give the Cougars their biggest lead of the night, 35-20, with 2:53 left in the first half.
Lyco cut the margin to 11 at halftime, but the Cougars stretched it to 15 again early in the second half on another three-pointer from Hornung and Lazdowsky's jumper in the lane.
The Warriors chipped away and eventually took their first lead with 2:40 left in regulation.
Tied 73-73, both teams had turnovers in the final minute of regulation.
