Joseph Baldachino scored a team-high 20 points to lead four players in double figures as the Misericordia University men's basketball team beat Delaware Valley, 80-71, Saturday afternoon on Doc Mould Court.
Nick Hornung added 19 points and
Nate Kreitzer had 12 points and seven assists.Â
Kevin Lazdowsky added 11 points for the Cougars.
The Cougars opened the game on a 10-0 run and never trailed.
After Kreitzer made two free throws, Hornung hit a three-pointer from the top of the arc and sank a baby hook shot to make it 7-0.
Derek Smith drilled a pull-up three-pointer from the left wing to cap the 10-0 spurt.
The Aggies eventually pulled within three points late in the first half, but the Cougars closed the half on a 12-2 run.
Lazdowsky and Smith both made two free throws and Kreitzer's baseline drive gave the Cougars a 34-26 lead with 1:26 left in the first half.
Baldachino went coast-to-coast off a steal and ended the half with a three-pointer from the right corner for a 39-26 lead.
Del Val cut the deficit to 52-44 less than five minutes into the second half, but Smith drained a three-pointer from in front of the MU bench and the Cougars maintained a double digit lead until the final minute of the game.
Baldachino's scoop shot and back-to-back three-pointers by
Dewin Concepcion and Lazdowsky stretched the lead to 63-44 midway through the second half.
