Football Falls to Del Val, 28-6

The Misericordia University football team ended its home schedule with a hard-fought 28-6 loss to Delaware Valley, Saturday at Mangelsdorf Field.

The Cougars recognized 23 seniors on Senior Appreciation Day prior to the game.

Delaware Valley scored a touchdown in each quarter to improve to 8-1 and claim its sixth straight MAC title.

Gavin Morris tied the school single-game record with 18 tackles and Eric Glass added 10 stops and Owen McGuffey had a touchdown reception late in the first half to get the Cougars within 14-6 at halftime.

The Aggies opened the game with a 12-play, 81-yard scoring drive that took 7:36 off the clock.

The score stood until another lengthy Del Val scoring drive on their first possession of the second quarter.

Down 14-0, the Cougars took over at their own 26-yard line with 4:57 left in the first half.  The drive appeared to stall on third-and-three, but a personal foul penalty gave MU its first first down and moved the ball to midfield.  Dom Caruso burst up the middle for another first down into Aggie territory and T.J. Lattimore hit McGuffey with a quick out on the left sideline for another first down.

Caruso used a stutter step around the left end for a first down at the Del Val 15.

After a short run, Lattimore found McGuffey for a diving catch near the left pylon to get within 14-6 with less than two minutes to play in the first half.

The Cougars took the opening kick of the second half and drove deep into Del Val territory.  A pair of personal foul penalties kept MU's drive alive, but it stalled at the 24 and the Aggies took over on downs.

The teams traded punts on the next two series, but MU's kick was blocked and the Aggies took advantage of the short field to take a 20-6 lead with 4:35 left in the third quarter.

The Aggies added a touchdown on their first possession of the fourth quarter for the final margin.

MU will wrap up the 2023 season at FDU-Florham, Saturday.
