Kevin Lazdowsky and Derek Smith scored 22 points each to lead five players in double figures as the Misericordia University men's basketball team opened the season with a 112-59 win over Mt. St. Mary, Thursday night on Doc Mould Court.

Joseph Baldachino had 13 points and Nick Hornung and Nate Kreitzer added 11 and 10, respectively.

Baldachino grabbed a team-high eight rebounds while Lazdowsky, Smith and Dewin Concepcion all had five rebounds.

Up 27-22 late in the first half, Lazdowsky and Smith sandwiched three-pointers around a Kreitzer layup to give MU a 35-22 lead.

Two free throws from Baldachino and a jumper from Smith gave MU a 39-22 lead.

MU stretched the lead to 47-29 at halftime and never looked back.

The Cougars pulled away in the second half as they shot 63.2% from three-point ranger over the final 20 minutes.
