The Misericordia University men's basketball team dropped its final non-conference game of the season, 80-74, at the City College of New York, Friday afternoon.
Kevin Lazdowsky led the Cougars with 19 points and five assists and
Derek Smith added 11 points and nine rebounds.
Smith and
Joseph Baldachino both made three pointers as the Cougars opened the game on an 8-0 run.
CCNY rallied and eventually closed the half on an 8-4 run to take a 34-26 halftime lead.
The Beavers maintained a double digit for much of the second half and held off a late MU rally.
Smith and Lazdowsky hit back-to-back-to-back three-pointers to get MU within 66-59 with 2:44 to play.
Baldachino and R.J. Weise added three-pointers in the final minute to cut the deficit to 79-74, but the Cougars ran out of time.
MU will open MAC Freedom play at Delaware Valley, Wednesday.
