The Misericordia University women's basketball team completed the season sweep of King's with a 61-50 win, Wednesday night at Scandlon Gym.
Meaghan McCaffrey led the Cougars with 14 points while
Alyssa Bondi and
Melina Santacroce added 13 and 11, respectively.
Gianna Delfino added nine points, 11 rebounds and eight assists and
Skylar Dowling had nine points.
The win moved head coach
Jason Rhine into a tie with Tom Griffith for all-time wins in school history with 116 career victories.
The Cougars raced out to a 13-0 in the first four minutes and never trailed.
Bondi and Delfino sandwiched three-pointers around a layup by Santacroce to give MU an 8-0 lead just over two minutes into the game.
Delfino made two free throws and Bondi hit another three-pointer to make it 13-0 with 6:02 to play in the first period.
King's pulled with 20-15 at the end of the period and the teams battled through a defensive struggle in the second quarter.
Elizabeth Fasti hit a three-pointer late in the quarter and McCaffrey added a layup as the Cougars took a 30-22 lead into halftime.
Delfino hit a three-pointer midway through the third period to make it 36-24. After King's scored five straight points,
Skylar Dowling answered with five of her own to get the lead back to 43-31 with 1:22 left in the third.
McCaffrey closed the quarter with a layup and the Cougars led 45-34.
The Monarchs got within 49-44 with 5:48 left, but the MU defense allowed just six points the rest of the way.
