Despite a 57-56 loss at Delaware Valley, the Misericordia University women's basketball team locked up the number three in the MAC Freedom Championships.
Alyssa Bondi led the Cougars with 19 points while
Meaghan McCaffrey and
Skylar Dowling scored 10 points each.
Melina Santacroce grabbed a game-high 13 rebounds.
McCaffrey gave the Cougars a 45-43 lead with a pair of free throws with 6:07 remaining, but the Aggies scored five straight points to take 48-45 lead.
Down 54-48, Bondi hit a three-pointer with :33 to go, but Del Val added a free throw to go up 55-51.
Morgan Haefele made two free throws, but Aggies answered with two of their own for a 57-53 lead with :08 to play.
Bondi added a three-pointer in the closing seconds for the final margin.
Bondi and McCaffrey combined for eight points in the first quarter as the Cougars grabbed a 14-7 lead, but Aggies rallied in the second quarter to get within 22-21 at halftime.
The teams traded baskets throughout the third quarter and the Cougars led 41-39 heading to the final stanza.
Misericordia will travel to Lycoming, Tuesday.
