Kevin Lazdowsky led three players in double figures as the Misericordia University men's basketball team handed DeSales its first conference loss with a 73-65 win, Saturday afternoon on Dr. Michael Mould Court.
Lazdowsky scored a game-high 17 points and was a perfect 6-6 from the free throw in the final two minutes.
Nick Hornung added 14 points and 10 rebounds and
Joseph Baldachino scored 14 points as the Cougars improved to 11-10 overall and 6-6 in the MAC Freedom.
Trailing 47-44,
Nate Kreitzer drove the lane and kicked back to
Derek Smith for a wide-open three-pointer on the right win.
Nick Prociak's layup gave the Cougars lead for good, 49-47, with 10:32 remaining.
Lazdowsky got a friendly on a short jumper on the right baseline and followed with a three-point play to give the Cougars a 56-49 lead with 7:04 to go.
Smith drained a three-pointer from the top of the key and converted the four-point play to make it 60-53 with 5:46 remaining.
Baldachino made it 63-55 with three-pointer off the dribble from the right wing with 4:03 to play.
DeSales battled back to get within 67-65 in the final minute, but Lazdowsky and Baldachino combined for six free throws to clinch the win.
Hornung scored MU's first seven points and Baldachino made a 15-foot jumper to give the Cougars a 12-11 lead.
The teams traded buckets throughout much of the first half until the Bulldogs finished on a 6-2 run to take a 34-30 halftime lead.
Misericordia opened the second half on an 8-2 run to take a 38-36 lead.
