Kevin Lazdowsky had 22 points and 10 rebounds and
Nate Kreitzer added 21 points to lift the Misericordia University men's basketball team to a thrilling 71-64 win over Wilkes, Wednesday night on Dr. Michael Mould Court.
Derek Smith scored 10 points and
Nick Hornung added 11 rebounds for the Cougars.
Kreitzer hit a three-pointer from the top of the key and converted MU's second four-point play of the night to take a 53-51 lead with 6:33 to go.
His deep three from the right wing put MU in front for good, 56-53, with 6:03 to play and his deeper three on the next possession made it 59-55 with 5:27 left.
Smith buried a three-pointer from the left wing for a 62-57 lead with 4:14 remaining.
Joseph Baldachino added three-pointer to give the Cougars a 65-59 lead with 3:21 to go and the Cougars were 6-6 from the foul line in the final minute.
After a sluggish first half, the Cougars found their shooting touch in the second half to overcome a 38-28 deficit with 18:23 to play.
Lazdowsky drained a wide-open three-pointer from the left wing off a nice pass from Kreitzer to get within 45-40 with 15:09 to go.
Lazdowsky scored on a back-door layup and added another layup pull within 45-44.
Smith buried a three-pointer from the left win on an in bounds play to give MU a 47-45 lead.
Wilkes went back in front, 51-49, wit 6:52 to play before Kreitzer responded.
Misericordia completed the season sweep of Wilkes while moving into fourth place in the MAC Freedom.
The Cougars are 12-10 overall and 7-6 in league play while Wilkes fell to 11-11 and 6-7.
