Bondi Rescues MU Women, Cougars Earn Postseason Berth as Rhine Sets Wins Record

Alyssa Bondi scored eight of her 10 points in overtime to help the Misericordia University women's basketball team clinch a postseason berth with a 63-57 win over Wilkes, Wednesday night on Dr. Michael Mould Court.

Skylar Dowling led the Cougars with 13 points as they improved to 16-6 overall and 9-4 in the MAC Freedom and help head coach Jason Rhine become the school's all-time wins leader with 117.

Melina Santacroce had 12 points and eight rebounds and Elizabeth Fasti had 11 points.

Fasti scored off an inbounds pass to give the Cougars their first lead, 32-30, with 5:23 left in the third period.

After a Wilkes bucket, Fasti drilled a three-pointer from the top of the key for a 35-32 lead.

Misericordia trailed throughout most of the fourth quarter until Meaghan McCaffrey's layup with 1:07 left produced a 44-43 advantage.

Following a Wilkes score, Dowling drove the right side and converted a three-point lead for a 47-45 lead with :32 to play.

Gianna Delfino made it 49-47 with a layup off an inbounds pass with :10 to go.

Dowling added two free throws, but Wilkes hit two three-pointers in the final :07 to force overtime.

McCaffrey's putback tied the score 55-55 in the opening minute of OT to set the stage for Bondi's heroics.
