The Misericordia University baseball team jumped out to an 8-0 lead, but ultimately fell at Swarthmore, 13-9, Thursday afternoon.
Swarthmore scored 10 runs over the final three innings to complete the comeback.
The Cougars got the potential tying run to the plate in the top of the ninth, but left the bases loaded.
Brady Madden led the Cougars with three hits while
Joe Comins,
Brendan Gray and
Gabe Bunn had two hits each.
The Cougars grabbed the early lead with five runs in the top of the second.Â
Derrick Vosburg drew a lead-off walk and
Connor Maryniak doubled to left. Gray drove in a run on an infield single and Maryniak came home on a wild pitch. Bunn walked and one out later,
Garrett McIlhenney was hit by a pitch to load the bases. Comins reached on a two-out fielder's choice and two runs scored on a throwing error on the play. Madden singled up the middle to make it 5-0.
Bunn doubled with one out in the third and scored on
Josh Burger's RBI-ground out. McIlhenney reached on an error and
Brock Bollinger singled and Comins brought both runners home with a double to left-center.
Swarthmore got two runs back in the bottom of the third and scored in each of the last four innings.
Misericordia opens a MAC Freedom series at Delaware Valley, Friday.
