#21 Cougars Win 10th Straight

The number 21 Misericordia University baseball team won its 10th straight game with a 13-7 win over Scranton, Tuesday at Tambur Field.

Brendan Gray had three hits and five RBI to lead the Cougars and Garrett McIlhenney hit a two-run homer.

Joe Comins drove in two runs and Derrick Vosburg and Brady Madden both scored five runs.

After a shaky first inning, Max Oliver tossed four scoreless innings to earn the win.

Scranton took a 2-0 lead in the top of the first, but the Cougars answered with two in the bottom half.

McIlhenney was hit by a pitch to start the bottom of the first and was safe at second on a wide throw that allowed Vosburg to reach.  Madden lined a single to rightfield to drive in a run and Comins tied it with a RBI-grounder.

Gray led off the second with a one-hop double off the centerfield fence and McIlhenney put the Cougars in front with a two-out, two-run homer to right.

The Cougars added four runs in the third on just one hit.  Vosburg reached via HBP and Madden walked.  After a sacrifice bunt, Maryniak walked to load the bases.  Gray greeted the new Scranton pitcher with a three-run double off the bottom of the fence in right and he moved to third on the throw.  Gray came home on a balk to make it 8-2.

Vosburg and Madden were both hit by pitch in the bottom of the fourth and Comins walked to load the bases.  With outs, Gray singled through the box to plate to runs and extend the lead to 10-2.

The Cougars went scoreless for the first time in the fifth and Scranton got four runs back in the top of the sixth.

Madden was hit by pitch to start the sixth and stole second before scoring on Comins' double to right-center.

Comins moved to third when Connor Maryniak reached on an error and both runners moved up on a passed ball to give the Cougars a 12-6 lead.

Gray reached via HBP and the Cougars pulled off a double steal and Maryniak came home with the final run on Mike Murphy's bouncer to second base.

The Cougars are 23-5 and will face Stevens in the Bristol Police Game in Bristol, CT, Wednesday at 6:00.
