The Misericordia University baseball team saw its 10-game winning streak snapped with a 5-2 loss to Stevens in the Bristol Police Game, Wednesday night at Muzzy Field in Bristol, CT.
The game was a fundraiser for the families of fallen Bristol police officers Lieutenant Dustin DeMonte and Sergeant Alex Hamzy, who lost their lives in the line of duty in October.
Fellow Bristol police officer Alec Iurato, a Misericordia alum who was wounded in the attack in October, threw out the ceremonial first pitch and fired a strike on the outside corner at the knees.
Stevens rallied from an early 2-0 deficit and scored three runs in the top of the fifth to take the lead. The Ducks added a run in the sixth and tacked on an insurance run in the top of the ninth.
Connor Maryniak and
Gabe Bunn both drove in runs for the Cougars and
Garrett McIlhenney,
Brock Bollinger and
Derrick Vosburg added hits.
Tyler Leonard retired the first 12 batters he faced before the Ducks rallied in the fifth. Leonard struck out five while scattering five hits over 6.1 innings to absorb the loss.
The Cougars took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the second without a hit. Maryniak reached via hit by pitch to open the inning and moved to second on a walk to
Brendan Gray. Both runners moved up on a sac bunt and Maryniak came home on a squeeze bunt by
Gabe Bunn.
Â
Vosburg singled to start the third and moved to third on back-to-back ground outs before scoring on Maryniak's infield single.
Â
Stevens got its first base runner in the fifth and Ducks scored three times to take a 3-2 lead.

Misericordia will host Lycoming in the first game of a MAC Freedom series, Friday.
