Cougars Rally Past Lycoming

The Misericordia University baseball team opened a three-game series with Lycoming with a 13-8 win Friday afternoon at Tambur Field.
 
Jason Sanfilippo had four hits and drove in two runs and Derrick Vosburg hit a grand slam to lead the Cougars.
 
Brock Bollinger and Gabe Bunn both drove in two runs.
 
Tommy Tracy worked 2.2 innings of shutout relief to earn the win.
 
Misericordia made the most of its nine hits as the Cougars took advantage of six walks and five HBP to score in six eight innings.
 
A two-out rally gave MU a 2-0 lead in the second.  Brendan Gray drew a two-out walk and moved up on Sanfilippo's single up the middle.  Burger was hit by a pitch to load the bases and Garrett McIlhenney walked to force in the first run.  Bollinger was hit by a pitch to make it 2-0.
 
The Cougars added a run without the benefit of a hit in the third.  Madden was hit by pitch, moved up on a ground out and stole third before coming home on Bunn's sacrifice fly.
 
After Lycoming got on the board in the fourth, the Cougars got the run back in their half.  Sanfilippo singled to center and advanced on a sac bunt and a fly out before coming home on Bollinger's single through the right side.
 
Lycoming scored again in the fifth and the Cougars responded with three runs in the bottom of the frame.  Madden drew a lead-off walk and Joe Comins doubled down the left field line.  Bunn singled in a run and Gray drove in another on a squeeze bunt.  Bunn came home on Sanfilippo's single through the middle to make it 7-2.
 
Lycoming scored twice in the sixth and the Cougars manufactured another run in the bottom of the inning.  Bollinger led off with a walk and Vosburg was hit by a pitch.  Both runners advanced on a wild pitch and Bollinger scored on Comins' RBI-ground out to make it 8-4.
 
The Warriors tied it in the top of the fourth, but the Cougars responded with a five-run rally to win the game.
 
Gray tripled down the right field line Sanfilippo's fourth hit of the game put the Cougars back in front.  McIlhenney and Bollinger drew walks to load the bases and Vosburg homered to right to empty them and give MU a 13-8 lead.
 
The Cougars will play a doubleheader against Lycoming, Saturday at Bowman Field.
