MU Women's Lacrosse Comes From Behind to Down Arcadia

The Misericordia University women's lacrosse team used a big second half to secure a 16-9 come-from-behind win over Arcadia, Wednesday night at Mangelsdorf Field.

Down 7-4 early in the third quarter, the Cougars scored six straight goals to take a 10-7 lead with 3:37 left in the period.

Michelle Torzilli had five goals and an assist for the Cougars and Rachel Shook had three goals and two assists.  Molly Celesky scored four goals and Kylee Cush had six assists.

Shook added seven draw controls and Celesky had six while Makenzie Tumini had five.

Lena Conway made six saves in goal.

After several turnovers by both teams over the first five minutes, Celesky intercepted a pass near midfield and outran the defense a placed a shot under the crossbar to give the Cougars a 1-0 lead with 9:26 left in the first period.

Arcadia answered with three goals before Celesky scored her second of the night on a free position shot with 4:28 to go.

The teams traded two goals each in the second quarter and the Knights scored early in the third period to take a 7-4 lead.

Jaden Pare went coast-to-coast on clear to get the Cougars within 7-5 and start a string of six straight goals.

Torzilli scored on a tough-angle shot from the left flank Cush connected with Shook and Celesky for the next three goals to give MU a 9-7 lead with 4:19 left in the third period.

Genevieve Montanye scooped up a rebound and found Melanie Carbo in front of the net midway through the fourth period for a 14-9 lead.

Cush found Torzilli in stride to make it 15-9 and Torzilli fed Montanye for an over-the-shoulder goal to make it 16-9 with 3:26 remaining.
