Genevieve Montanye scored her second triple-overtime game-winner in five days to lift the Misericordia University women's lacrosse team to an 8-7 win over FDU-Florham in the MAC Freedom Semifinals, Wednesday night at Mangelsdorf Field.
Â
Montanye took a pass in front from
Kylee Cush, pump-faked the goalie and scored low inside the right post midway through the third overtime.
Â
Madelyn Uetz had eight saves in goal, including two point-blank stops in the second-OT.
Â
Michelle Torzilli had four goals and an assist and Montanye had two goals and two assists.
Â
Rachel Shook had two goals and an assist, including the game-tying goal late in the fourth quarter, and added a team-high seven draw controls.
Â
FDU-Florham took a 1-0 lead six minutes into the game and the Cougars tied when
Emily Baro found Torzilli cutting down the middle of the lane with 1:34 left in the first quarter.
Â
Torzilli made another nice cut from the right flank and took a pass in front of the cage from Montanye to give MU a 2-1 lead in the opening minute of the second period.
Â
Torzilli returned the favor and Montanye turned and shot from five yards out to make it 3-1 less than a minute later.
Â
Cush hit Torzilli in stride for a 4-1 lead just 14 seconds later.
Â
Following a Devils goal, Shook weaved through the defense and scored in the top right corner to put MU in front, 5-2, midway through the second quarter.
Â
FDU-Florham scored three goals in the final 3:12 of the first half to pull even.
Â
Misericordia nearly killed a three-man advantage, but the Devils tallied a man-up goal for the only score of the third quarter and a 6-5 lead.
Â
The Devils went up 7-5 with 12:14 to play, but Torzilli answered less than a minute later.
Â
Shook took a perfect pass in front of the net from Montanye to notch the game-tying goal with 3:47 left in regulation.
Â
Neither team threatened in the first extra session and Uetz kept the Cougars alive with two big stops in the second overtime.
