Lazdowsky scored on a driving layup on MU's first possession to reach the 1,000-point milestone and added back-to-back three-pointers to give the Cougars a quick 8-2 lead.
The Dutchmen battled and took their first lead since the first basket of the game, 26-24, with 2:52 left in the first half.
Nick Prociak made consecutive layups to put MU back in front and Kreitzer drilled a deep three-pointer from the right wing as the Cougars took a 35-28 halftime lead.
The Cougars opened the second half on a 15-7 run to take a 50-35 lead with 15:13 to go.
Lazdowsky buried a three-pointer from the left corner and Kreitzer hit a jumper in the lane to make it 44-32.
R.J. Weise drained a three from the left wing and Smith connected from in front of the MU bench to cap the run and the Cougars maintained a double digit lead until the final minute of play.
