The Misericordia University men's soccer team fought their way to a 1-1 tie in their Homecoming matchup against MAC Freedom foe King's College, Saturday night at Mangelsdorf Field.
Anthony Yarabinee pulled the Cougars even in the 82nd minute after the Monarchs took the lead midway through the first half before.
Yarabinee was finally able to net the equalizer at 81:51 after picking up a loose ball during a scramble inside the box and burying a shot to the left side of the goal for his team-leading fifth goal of the season.
Despite a fast-paced back and forth sequence in the final minutes of the match, neither team was able to pull ahead and the score held firm at 1-1 through the 90th minute.
MU created the first scoring chance of the match at 3:31 when
Nicholas Passaniti had his shot blocked on the far side of the pitch.
Drew Weaver nearly broke the game open after the Cougars were awarded a free kick at 7:46, but his header was just wide of the left goalpost.
Misericordia continued to generate scoring opportunities in the early stages of the match. In the 16th minute, Yarabinee and
Shane Macko both produced shots from inside the box that were turned aside by the Monarchs' keeper.
Midway through the half, momentum began to swing in favor of King's and the visitors took a 1-0 lead at 21:56 and protected their advantage to halftime.
The second half opened with a long stretch of end-to-end action as neither team could sustain possession in their respective offensive zones.
Santino Jannotte made his first save of the evening in the 61st minute when he charged out of his net to meet a King's attacker and cut down the angle on his shot. After making the save, the ball dribbled to the left side of the goal where a second Monarch was denied on a sliding block by an MU defender.
A chaotic sequence in the King's zone led to a golden scoring opportunity for
Max Jamieson in the 76th minute. A long distance floating shot tipped off the hands of the Monarch keeper and found the boot of Jamieson directly in front of the goal, but the keeper dove to his side to turn aside Jamieson's shot.
Yarabinee led the way with two shots on goal, including the game-tying goal. Jamieson and Macko provided the two other shots on goal for MU, who outshot King's 13-9.
The Cougars travel to Delaware Valley University to take on the Aggies, Wednesday at 7:00.
