10/30/2024 8:45:00 PM

Box Score The Misericordia University field hockey team dropped a heartbreaking 3-2 decision in overtime against Stevens, Wednesday night at Mangelsdorf Field.

The Ducks took an early lead with two goals in the first 10-minutes of the game.

Abigail O'Donnell gave the Cougars their best chance of the first quarter when she dribbled past a defender and slotted the ball in-between the goalie's legs only to be blocked by a defender guarding the goal.

O'Donnell scored MU's first goal of the night off a backhanded swipe into the bottom right corner of the net, cutting the Ducks lead to 2-1, midway through the second period.

Celeste Hoffman and Lily Metress launched an onslaught of shots against the Ducks in the third quarter, but the Stevens goalie denied each effort.

Madison Blauch tapped a loose ball into the left corner of the cage to tie the score, 2-2, with less than eight minutes left in the game.

The Ducks had a goal waved off early in overtime and Haley Harper stopped a penalty stroke late in the first extra session.

Stevens netted the game-winner 4:02 into the second OT.

The Cougars will host DeSales in the season finale, Saturday.
