The Misericordia University women's volleyball team swept their tri-match with Mount Aloysius College and Mount Saint Mary College, Saturday afternoon.
In the first match of the day, MU rallied for a 3-1 win against Mount Aloysius. In the night cap, the Cougars put together a commanding 3-0 sweep of Mount Saint Mary.
In the opener against Mount Aloysius, Misericordia took the first two sets, 25-17 and 25-12, with confidence before losing steam in the third set, 25-22, that pushed them into a fourth set win, 25-22.
Jenna Schuda led the Cougars with 36 assists, 16 digs, three blocks and two aces.
Jessica Cleveland tallied 22 digs, five assists and two aces and
Sarah Journey added eight aces.
Meghan Peters recorded 14 kills and four blocks while
Madison Tullo had a team high of five blocks.
Tied 6-6, the Cougars went on a six points streak, including four kills that pushed Misericordia's lead to 12-6 in the first set.
Leading 20-17, Misericordia closed the first set with five straight points, including two service aces by Journey.
In the second set, the Cougars capitalized on errors to build a 7-1 lead. Two aces from Schuda gave MU a 19-9 lead.
The Cougars lost energy in the third set falling behind 6-2. With 14 kills in the set, MU tied the score at 22-22, before Mount Aloysius had two kills to win the set.
Trailing in the fourth set, the Cougars initially fell behind before building momentum and regaining the led, 20-19, off a five-point streak with two aces by Journey and a kill from
Keira McCaffrey. After a kill from Peters, two Mount Aloysius errors secured the win for the Cougars.
In their second match of the day, MU took each of the first two sets by scores of 25-13 before finishing off Mount Saint Mary with a 25-14 win in the third set.
Schuda had another strong performance, tallying 31 assists with six digs, three blocks and two service aces.
Peters led the team with seven kills while Cleveland recorded a team-high nine digs, including the 1000th of her career in the first set against the Knights.
Deadlocked at 8-8, MU went on an explosive 9-0 run, including a pair of service aces by McCaffrey and back-to-back kills by Peters. The Cougars closed out the first set by taking four of the last five points.
Energized by eight straight points early in the second set, Misericordia surged to a 10-2 lead over the Knights. The rally was capped by a service ace by Peters, who also had a pair of kills during the run.
Up 21-13 and with a second set victory in their sights, the Cougars rattled off four consecutive points, including a kill by
Rachel LoFaso that sealed the deal.
MU started off the third set strong, as Schuda fired a pair of serves to the hardwood for service aces. Shortly thereafter, four costly errors by Mount Saint Mary and a Genduso kill resulted in a 5-0 run that elevated the Cougars to a 7-1 lead.
Further on in the set, errors continued to plague the Knights as Misericordia put up four straight points thanks to two attack errors and kills by Genduso and
Sadie Stockslager. After the run, MU led 22-13.

Misericordia is back in action for a MAC Freedom match against Delaware Valley University, Wednesday at 7:00.
