The Misericordia University hockey team dropped its matchup with Wilkes University, 5-1, in a Saturday afternoon MAC contest at the Toyota SportsPlex.
The Colonels got on the board midway through the first period before scoring two goals in a two-minute span in the middle frame.Â
The MU offense came to life in the final minute of the second period when
Jonathan Lush lit the lamp at 19:43.
Ethan Hollingsworth and
Ryan Karbach assisted on the shorthanded goal.Â
Wilkes responded with a pair of unanswered goals in the third to secure the win, 5-1.
Down 3-0, the Cougars were tasked with killing a penalty in the final stages of the second period. After winning a faceoff in MU's defensive zone, Karbach sacrificed his body by taking a big hit in order to send the puck up ice.Â
Hollingsworth collected the pass and entered the attacking zone on a two-on-one and dished a pass to Lush, who one-timed a shot into the back of the net at 19:43.
James Eng led the team with four shots, followed by Karbach, Lush and
Corbin Schiebel with three each.
Defensively, Lush contributed a team-high three blocked shots and
Anthony Shrum made 33 saves in goal.Â
The Cougars return to the Toyota SportsPlex when they host King's in a MAC showdown, December 4 at 7:30.Â
