The Misericordia University men's basketball team used a balanced scoring attack as they opened the Seahawks Winter Classic with a 68-64 win over host Mt. St. Mary College, Saturday afternoon in St. Mary's City, MD.
Kevin Lazdowsky scored a team-high 16 points and
Matt Prociak had a double-double with 14 points and 10 rebounds.Â
Jack Gallagher added 10 points and six rebounds and
Arvel Chandler had nine points and five assists.
After building a 10-point lead on Gallagher's three-pointer with 3:56 left in the first half, the Cougars took a 34-28 lead into halftime.
The exchanged hands eight times in the second half with the Cougars going in front for good, 58-57, on a Chandler steal and fastbreak layup by R.J. Weise with 5:29 to go.
Prociak, Chandler and Lazdowsky followed with layups to stretch the lead to 64-59 with 2:26 to play.
The Seahawks got within 64-62 with 1:04 left, but Chandler made two free throws and Gallagher added a layup to clinch the win.
Lazdowsky hit a three-pointer to break a 14-14 tie midway through the first half. Prociak made back-to-back layups and Weise and Gallagher hit consecutive three-pointers to give MU the biggest lead of the game, 32-22, with 3:56 to play in the first half.
