The Ferrum men's basketball team used a late second-half run to secure a 78-65 come-from-behind over Misericordia University in the consolation game of the Christopher Newport Captains Shootout, Monday in Newport News, Va.
Matt Prociak led four MU players in double figures with 18 points and seven rebounds while
Jack Gallagher added 17 points, seven rebounds and six assists.
Kevin Lazdowsky had 12 points and five rebounds and
Arvel Chandler added 11 points.
Gallagher's layup gave the Cougars a 44-43 lead with 11:55 to play, but Ferrum responded with a 23-6 run over the next seven minutes to take a 66-49 lead.
Down 31-27 at halftime, Chandler opened the second half with a three-pointer to get the Cougars within a point.
Ferrum scored five straight points and Gallagher answered with two straight layups to cut MU's deficit to 36-34 with 15:46 to play.
Following a Ferrum three-pointer, Lazdowsky made a layup and Gallagher drained a three-pointer to get within 41-39 with 14:02 to go.
Lazdowsky converted a three-point play to give MU a 42-41 lead with 12:33 remaining.
Gallagher answered a Ferrum layup to give the Cougars their last lead, 44-43.
The teams went back-and-forth throughout the first half with neither team leading by more than four points over the first 20 minutes.
