The Misericordia University women's lacrosse team opened the season with a 15-12 win over Marywood, Tuesday night at Mangelsdorf Field.

Michelle Torzilli led the Cougars with six goals and two assists and Rachel Shook and Jordyn Jarrett scored three goals each.  Genevieve Montanye had a goal and three assists.

Shook added a team-high four draw controls while Molly Celesky had two caused turnovers and two groundballs.

Torzilli and Montanye assisted on each other's goals and Torzilli added an unassisted goal as the Cougars took a 3-0 lead in the first three minutes.

After Marywood tied it, Torzilli placed a free position shot under the crossbar to put the Cougars back in front with 4:57 left in the first period.

Marywood scored two straight goals to take a 5-4 lead, but the Cougars answered with three straight goals to take the lead for good.

Jarrett drove the left wing and whipped a shot inside the left post to tie the score and Shook caused a turnover near midfield and scored the go-ahead goal with 2:50 remaining in the first quarter.

Jarrett fought off two defenders near the left post to give Misericordia a 9-7 lead late in the second quarter and Torzilli scored in the upper right corner with less than a minute to go for a 10-7 halftime lead.

Torzilli took a nice feed from Montanye on the right wing to open the second half and extend the lead to 11-7 and the Pacers never got closer than three goals the rest of the way.
