The Muhlenberg College women's lacrosse team held off a late rally to defeat Misericordia University, 12-11, Wednesday afternoon in Allentown.
Michelle Torzilli led MU with five goals and an assist and
Genevieve Montanye and
Rachel Shook both had two goals and an assist.
Torzilli and Montanye scored less than a minute apart to get the Cougars within 12-11 with 1:33 to play, but the Cougars never regained possession.
Shook added a team-high 10 draw controls and Torzilli had five while
Molly Celesky had five ground balls.
Torzilli scored twice as the Cougars took a 4-0 lead late in the first quarter. Muhlenberg cut the lead in half with two goals in the final 1:04 of the period and scored five straight goals to take a 7-4 lead late in the second quarter.
Shook got one back for MU with 3:41 to play in the first half and Torzilli scored midway through the third period to get within 7-6 and the teams traded goals the rest of the way.
