Connor Maryniak and
Jason Sanfilippo both homered and
Garrett McIlhenney had two extra-base hits and two RBI as the Misericordia University baseball team edged Swarthmore, 6-5, Tuesday.
Max Oliver worked five innings to get the win with two innings of relief from
Aidan Paduck and
Matt Lanzendorfer. Lanzendorfer struck out two over the final two innings to get the save.
Down 1-0, Sanfilippo tied the game with a solo homer to left to lead off the top of the second inning.
Back-to-back doubles by
Owen Cordner and McIlhenney in the third gave the Cougars a 2-1 lead. McIlhenney scored on an attempted double-steal to make it 3-1.
After Swarthmore took a 4-3 lead in the fourth, MU answered with a pair of two-out runs in their next at bat. Cordner singled to left with two outs and came all the way around on McIlhenney's triple.Â
Jack Regenye singled to give MU a 5-4 lead.
Maryniak homered with two outs in the sixth with an important insurance run.
