Gabe Bunn's bases-loaded single in the bottom of the ninth lifted the Misericordia University baseball team to an 11-10 walk-off win over King's in their series opener, Wednesday afternoon at Tambur Field.
Bunn had three hits and two RBI and
Connor Maryniak had four hits and four RBI as the Cougars rallied from an early 10-3 deficit.
Joe Comins scored five runs as the Cougars won their fifth straight.
Matt Lanzendorfer struck out two in the top of the ninth to earn the win.
Misericordia scored six runs over the final three innings to complete the comeback.
Maryniak's two-out, bases-loaded double gave the Cougars a 3-0 lead in the bottom of the first, but King's answered with four runs in the top of the second. The Monarchs added a run in the third and scored five in the fourth to take a 10-3 lead.
Justin Calvarese struck out seven over 3.1 innings and combined with
Max Oliver and Lanzendorfer for 5.1 shutout innings of relief.
The Cougars got two runs back in the fourth on
Brooks Kanwisher's single down the left field line and Bunn's RBI-ground out.
MU continued to chip away with two more runs in the seventh. Comins led off with a single, stole second and later scored on Kanwisher's sac fly.Â
Garrett McIlhenney's infield single drove in a run to get the Cougars within 10-7.
Maryniak singled to drive in a run and Kanwisher followed with another sac fly to make it 10-9.Â
Andrew Van Horn reached on a bunt single to plate the tying run.
Lanzendorfer struck out two in the ninth to offset a pair of walks to set the stage for the game-winning rally.
Brock Bollinger led off with a single to center and moved up on a sac bunt. Comins was intentionally walked and Maryniak singled to center, but Bollinger was thrown out at the plate for the second out.  Kanwisher walked to load the bases and Bunn singled to win the game.
