The Misericordia University baseball team swept a doubleheader at FDU-Florham, 9-4, 4-2, Saturday.

Jack Regenye had three hits in the opener and
Joe Comins drove in three runs while
Brock Bollinger and
Connor Maryniak had two hits.

Joe Valenti allowed just five hits over six innings to earn the win and
Tyler Leonard pitched a scoreless seventh.

Maryniak had two hits and three RBI in the nightcap and Bollinger had two hits.

Steve Rinda struck out eight over 6.1 innings to get the win and
Matt Lanzendorfer struck out five over 2.2 innings to earn the save.

The Cougars took the lead with a three-run third in the opener. Regenye and Bollinger both singled before Maryniak and Comins drew back-to-back walks to force in a run. Sanfilippo singled down the left field line to drive in two runs for a 4-1 lead.Â

The Devils got a run back in the bottom of the third, but MU answered with two in the top of the fourth on a two-out single from Comins.

The Cougars took advantage of a couple of errors and a wild pitch to add a pair of insurance runs in the sixth and Regenye added an RBI-double in the seventh.

Maryniak's two-out triple to right center gave the Cougars a 1-0 lead in the top of the first in the nightcap.

After the Devils tied it in the fourth, MU went back in front in their next at bat.Â
Owen Cordner reached via HBP to open the inning and later scored on Regenye's sac fly.

Tied 2-2 after six innings, the Cougars in front for good on Maryniak's sac fly in the seventh.

Maryniak's infield single drove in an insurance run in the top of the ninth.

MU will host the Devils in the series finale, Sunday at 11:00 a.m.
