The Misericordia University men's lacrosse team closed the game on a 5-0 run over the final 9:08 to beat Lebanon Valley, 13-9, in a key MAC Freedom contest, Wednesday night at Mangelsdorf Field.
Down 9-8,
Jake Louis and
Brendan Stanley scored 12 seconds apart to give the Cougars a 10-9 lead with 8:56 to play.
Jared Pelliccione scored twice in less than a minute and
Connor Bevan added an insurance goal with 5:54 to go.
Stanley led the Cougars with four goals and Pelliccione three goals and an assist. Bevan had two goals and three assists and
Ty Murawski had two goals and an assist.
Chris Dindino made 14 saves in goal.
Pelliccione gave the Cougars an early with a shot in the right corner with 12:06 left in the first quarter. Bevan found Stanley on the left wing for a 2-0 lead less than two minutes later.
Lebanon Valley scored five of the next six goals to take a 5-3 lead late in the second quarter.
Stanley scored on a diving back-handed shot to pull even with 2:16 to go and Gundersen came from behind the net to score inside the left post less than a minute later to knot the score.
Murawski bounced a shot inside the left post early in the third period and the teams scored two goals each in the third period to remain tied, 7-7, heading to the fourth quarter.
The Dutchmen took an 8-7 lead off the fourth-quarter face-off, but Bevan answered two minutes later to make it 8-8.
LVC took a 9-8 lead to set the stage for MU's winning rally.
