Seniors Set School Records in Women's Lacrosse Home Finale

The Misericordia University women's lacrosse team made the most of its Senior Appreciation Day as the Cougars closed out the regular season with a 26-16 win over FDU-Florham, Saturday afternoon at Mangelsdorf Field.

Seniors Michelle Torzilli, Skylar Dowling and Genevieve Montanye combined for 35 points and Torzilli and Dowling combined to break or tie three school records.

Torzilli tied the single-game scoring record with 10 goals and set a new record with 12 points while Dowling set a new school record with nine assists and matched Torzilli with 12 points.

Montanye had seven goals and four assists and went over 100 goals for her career.

Rachel Shook had a team-high 14 draw controls and went over 300 for her career.  Natalie McKinney made 11 saves in goal.

In a back-and-forth first quarter, Torzilli sandwiched a pair of goals around scores by Alicia Pileggi and Montanye to give MU a 6-3 lead midway through the period.

The Devils scored three straight goals to pull even, but Dowling scored a wrap-around goal inside the left post to put MU back in front with 2:27 to go.

The Cougars took control with a 7-0 run overlapping the third and fourth quarters to take a 23-13 lead.

MU will travel to Lebanon Valley for a MAC Freedom semifinal, Wednesday.
