The Misericordia University baseball team will travel to Newport News, VA to take on Christopher Newport in the NCAA Division III Super Regional, Friday-Saturday, May 24-25.
Game one is Friday at noon while game two is set for 11:00 a.m. Saturday with the 'if necessary' game to follow.
Ticket prices are $10 for adults and $5 for seniors and students (cash only).
The winner of the best-of-three Super Regional will advance to the NCAA D-III World Series at Classic Auto Group Park, Eastlake, OH,
The Cougars are 36-9 and are on a nine-game win streak and were 3-0 in the Dallas Regional. CNU is 29-10 after going 3-1 in the Newport News Regional. The Captains defeated Immaculata in 15 innings in the regional opener and then held off North Carolina Wesleyan in the final, 6-5.
This is the second meeting between Misericordia and Christopher Newport. The Cougars swept a best-of-series at CNU in the first round of the 2019 NCAA Tournament.
Misericordia is led by MAC Freedom Player of the Year
Connor Maryniak. The shortstop is hitting .382 and set school single-season records with 67 RBI and 122 total bases. He has tied the school record with 13 homers.
In addition, Maryniak is 9-2 with a 1.96 earned run average on the mound.
Right fielder
Garrett McIlhenney was a first-team All-MAC Freedom selection. He is hitting a team-high .403 and has reached base safely in 32 consecutive games and 119 out of the last 120 games.
He is MU's all-time leader with 231 runs, 97 stolen bases, 87 hit by pitches and a .544 on-base % and could become the school's career leader in games played during the Super Regional series.
Brock Bollinger was named first-team All-MAC Freedom at catcher. He is hitting .361 with 21 extra-base hits and 45 RBI.
Left fielder
Joe Comins is hitting .391 and ranks fourth in the league in RBI (45), third in runs (50), sixth in hits (61) and fourth in on-base % (.505).
Joe Valenti was named first-team All-MAC Freedom as a starting pitcher. He is 9-2 with a 2.10 ERA and set a school record with 87.1 innings pitched. He is second in school history with 262.66 innings pitched and is tied for second with 21 career wins.
Matt Lanzendorfer is 3-0 with five saves and a 1.32 ERA and was named first-team All-MAC Freedom as a relief pitcher.Â
Justin Calvarese earned second-team honors and is 3-1 with a 2.84 ERA and 39 strikeouts in just 25.1 innings.
Christopher Newport had seven players earn first-team All Coast-to-Coast Athletic Conference, including Pitcher of the Year Dylan Weber.
Pitcher Brandon Cassedy also made first team along with Scott Crosson, Doc Daniels, Kyle Lewis, Lincoln Lubsen and Josh Reinhold. Zach Dzarnowski earned honorable mention.
Weber is 9-1 with a 1.61 ERA and 130 strikeouts in 89.1 innings pitched. Cassedy is 7-3 with 105 strikeouts and Lewis has five saves with a 1.48 ERA.
Reinhold leads the team in batting at .337 and with 43 runs scored while Lubsen has a team-high seven homers, 47 RBI and a .566 slugging percentage.
