Box Score The Misericordia University baseball team dropped into the loser's bracket with a 6-2 loss to defending national champion Lynchburg at the NCAA D-III World Series, Saturday afternoon in Eastlake, OH.
Joe Comins and
Andrew Van Horn had two hits each for the Cougars, who had their winning streak snapped at 12 straight games.
The Cougars were held scoreless until
Jeff Policarpio's two-out, two-run pinch-hit double in the top of the ninth.
Down 6-0 entering the final inning, Comins bounced a one-out single through the middle and Van Horn followed with a single to center. One out later, Policarpio doubled off the left field wall to get the Cougars on the board.
Lynchburg recorded six straight two-out hits and batted around in the bottom of the third inning to take a 3-0 lead.
The Hornets used Misericordia's recipe to add a couple of insurance runs later in the game.
A lead-off hit by pitch and a sacrifice bunt followed by a single through the right side made it 4-0 in the seventh.
The Hornets added a run without a hit in the bottom of the eighth. Two HBP sandwiched a walk to load the bases and a balk forced in a run to make it 5-0.
Misericordia will face top-seeded Endicott in an elimination game, Sunday at 11:00 a.m.
