6/17/2024 3:26:00 PM

Kaitlin Redling has been named the 2024 Misericordia University NCAA Woman of the Year.

A graduate student in the physical therapy doctoral program, Redling is a first baseman on the Misericordia softball team.

In 2024, she led the Cougars to a 22-14 record and a berth in the MAC Freedom championships.

"It is my pleasure to announce Kaitlin Redling as Misericordia University's 2024 NCAA Woman of the Year," said Chuck Edkins, director of athletics.  "In addition to her tremendous success on the softball field, Kaitlin has been a leader in the classroom and in the community throughout her career."

Redling was a four-time first-team All-MAC Freedom selection and earned NFCA All-Region honors three times and was a third-team NFCA All-American as a junior.

She is MU's all-time leader in on-base % and ranks third in career walks and fourth in slugging % and doubles.

A native of Flemington, NJ, she earned her bachelor's degree in biology with a minor in chemistry and was the 2022 Winter Commencement Valedictorian.  She was Misericordia's 2024 Female Co-Scholar-Athlete of the Year and has made the Dean's List in each of her 10 semesters.

She is a five-time member of the MAC Academic Honor Roll and a two-time Academic All-MAC selection.

In addtion, she serves as vice-president of the Misericordia Physical Therapy club and volunteers with the T21 + Me with families of children who have Down syndrome.  She chaired the entertainment committee for the 2023 Luzerne County Down Syndrome Buddy Walk on campus.

Established in 1991, the NCAA Woman of the Year award recognizes graduating female college athletes who have exhausted their eligibility and distinguished themselves in academics, athletics, service and leadership throughout their collegiate careers.

Conferences select up to two nominees each from the pool of school nominees and the Woman of the Year selection committee will choose the Top 30 honorees — 10 from each division.

The selection committee will determine the top three honorees from each division from the Top 30 and announce the nine finalists in September.  From those nine finalists, the NCAA Committee on Women's Athletics then will choose the 2024 NCAA Woman of the Year.
