Frazier Leads MU Football to Come-From-Behind Win in Opener

The Misericordia University football team used a dominating second half and scored 24 unanswered points to rally for a 24-14 win over Keystone in their season opener, Saturday afternoon at Mangelsdorf Field.

Shafeeq Frazier scored two touchdowns and Jacob Hunter added a third rushing touchdown for MU to give head coach Tyler Cottle his first career victory.

Connor McLaughlin added a 25-yard field goal as time expired in the first half.

Billy McCleery had a team-high six catches for 82 yards.

Gavin Morris had a team-high 10 tackles and Lamontae Wilson had two interceptions.

Keystone took the opening kickoff and went 54 yards in 10 plays to take an early 7-0 lead.

The Giants converted a fourth-and-13 from the Misericordia 25-yard line to cap a 98-yard drive and extend their lead to 14-0 early in the second quarter.

The MU defense stiffened and pitched a shutout the rest of the way.

Wilson's first interception of the game gave the Cougars the ball with in Keystone territory with 1:17 remaining in the first half.

Hunter connected with Billy McCleery on back-to-back plays to move MU to the Keystone 27 with 1:00 to play.

Hunter broke a tackle and scampered around left end for an eight-yard gain to the Keystone 19.

After two short gains, Hunter scrambled for seven yards to set up first-and-goal at the five.

Following a botched snap and a pass batted down in the end zone, McLaughlin connected on his first career field goal attempt to get MU within 14-3.

The Cougars took the opening kick-off of the second half and marched 65 yards on just seven plays.

McCleery broke a tackle for a 17-yard gain down the right sideline to convert a third down and move the Cougars into Keystone territory.

Hunter picked up eight yards around left end for a third-down conversion to the Keystone 14.

Frazier took a toss around right end on the next play and went 14 yards to the right pylon to get the Cougars within 14-10.

After forcing a Keystone punt, the Cougars scored on the ensuing possession to take their first lead.

Hunter hit Anthony Rucci for 14 yards on his first career reception and Davon Reams picked up 19 yards up the middle into Keystone territory.

Hunter rolled right to escape pressure and hit L.T. Messick for 19 yards to the Keystone 15.

Frazier picked up five yards on first down and Hunter broke a tackle and went around right end to give MU a 17-14 lead with 5:42 left in the third quarter.

The Cougars defense stuffed a fourth-down conversion attempt to take over at their own 33 with 13:03 to play.

Jacob Hoy used a stiff arm to pick up 23 yards down the left sideline on his first career reception to move the Cougars to the Keystone 21.

Two plays later, Frazier went around left end from six yards out for an insurance TD and 24-14 lead with 6:44 remaining.

Brooks Snider picked off a Keystone pass with under two minutes to play to seal the win.
