Box Score The Misericordia University women's basketball team opened its MAC Freedom schedule with a 67-49 win over Delaware Valley, Wednesday night on Doc Mould Court.
Jocelyn Grosch and
Emily Romanowski had 13 points each to lead five MU players in double figures.
Romanowski added nine rebounds and seven assists and
Ava Cirigliano had 11 points and 10 rebounds while
Morgan Janeski and
Samantha Casey added 11 points each.
The Cougars jumped out to a 9-0 lead and never trailed.
After a driving layup by Romanowski to open the game, Grosch drained a three-pointer from the right corner to make it 5-0 just over a minute into the game.
Chloe Captoni followed with a driving layup and Grosch scored on a fastbreak to cap the run with 5:56 to go in the first period.
Captoni hit a three-pointer from the left corner for a 14-4 lead with 1:09 to go the Cougars the closed the period with a 14-9 advantage.
The Aggies got within 20-18 late in the second quarter, but closed the half on a 11-2 run.
Grosch putback her own miss and Cirigliano scored off a nice feed from Janeski to make it 24-18.
Janeski buried a three-pointer from the left wing to beat the shot clock to put MU up, 27-18, with 1:54 to go.
After an Aggies bucket, Janeski cut down the middle of the lane for a layup and scored from the right block to beat the halftime buzzer and give the Cougars a 31-20 lead.
The Cougars shot 56.0% from the floor in the first half and didn't let up in the second half.
Grosch hit a short baseline jumper to start an 8-0 run late in the third quarter. Casey took a long pass from Romanowski on the left block to make it 47-34 and Janeski followed with a jumper along the left baseline.
Janeski's back-door layup and a pair of free throws from Casey finished the run and gave the Cougars a 53-34 lead with 10 seconds to go in the third quarter.
