The Misericordia University men's soccer team played to a 1-1 stalemate in its MAC Freedom matchup with Stevens, Saturday afternoon at Mangelsdorf Field.
Max Jamieson scored for the Cougars and
Santino Jannotte made eight saves in goal.
The Ducks went on the offensive early with a shot in the first minute of the match which missed high right. Stevens continued their attack, attempting their next shot in the 13
th minute, but Jannotte showed his defensive prowess with a sliding save.
Stevens continued to increase the pressure, attempting shots in the 17
th, 20
th and 23
rd minutes, but was unable to find the mark.
Jannotte made another impressive play, notching his second save of the game managing to get his fingertips on the ball to deflect it off the crossbar in the 25
th minute.
Jannotte was called into action again in the 36
th minute as he notched his third and final save of the first half with a diving stop to his left.
Both teams increased the intensity early in the second half as Stevens took the first shot in the 49
th minute and Misericordia took its first shot at the 52
nd minute mark.
Jamieson drilled a penalty kick into the back of the net to give the Cougars a 1-0 lead at 54:52.
A Stevens' header off of a corner kick which was turned away by Jannotte in the 73
rd minute, but Ducks got the tying goal on the ensuing corner.
The rest of the match was led by the Cougars' defense as they blocked two shots, and Jannotte notched two more saves over the final 15 minutes.
