The Misericordia University women's volleyball team dropped a tough five-set decision at Eastern in a non-conference match, Friday night in St. David's.
The host Eagles won 27-25, 19-25, 25-13, 19-25, 15-8.
Meghan Peters had a team-high 17 kills and
Madison Tullo and
Keira McCaffrey add 14 and 11, respectively.
Jenna Schuda had 41 assists, 10 digs, two blocks and two aces and
Maggie Duda had five aces.
Down 20-11 in the opening set, the Cougars roared back and tied the match, 24-24, with six straight points. Peters and Tullo had kills along with four Eastern errors to pull MU even.
Eastern held off the MU rally to win, 27-25.
The Cougars led from wire-to-wire in the second set and took a 23-16 lead on back-to-back kills from
Jennifer Nicometo and a pair of aces by Duda.
McCaffrey closed the 25-19 win with a kill.
Eastern raced out to an early lead and never looked back in the third set.
Duda had two aces to key a 4-0 run as the Cougars went in front for good, 12-10, in the fourth set.
Peters and Tullo had two kills each in a 6-1 run to give MU a 21-14 lead.
McCaffrey's kill and an ace by
Sarah Journey closed out the 25-19 win.
After falling behind 8-1 in the decisive set, MU's rally fell short. Tullo had two kills in a 5-0 spurt to cut the deficit to 8-6.
Eastern answered with three straight points and went on to win, 15-8.
