The Misericordia University women's volleyball team improved to 3-0 in the MAC Freedom with a sweep of King's, Wednesday night on Doc Mould Court.
Kiera McCaffrey had a big night with team-highs in kills (17), aces (6) and blocks (3).Â
Meghan Peters added 11 kills and seven digs and
Jenna Schuda had 34 assists and seven digs.
The Cougars won 25-21, 25-19, 25-18 to improve to 11-6 overall.
MU trailed throughout much of the first set, until taking control with a late 5-0 run. Down 16-14, McCaffrey's smash down the middle started the spurt and
Sarah Steeber added an ace as the Cougars took a 19-16 lead.
Peters' smash near the back line deflected off a King's player and Schuda followed with an ace to make it 22-18.
The teams traded points until another McCaffrey smash down the middle closed out a 25-21 win.
In the second set, the Cougars broke an 11-11 tie with a 3-0 run that was capped by a solo block in the middle by McCaffrey.
McCaffrey had back-to-back aces, including squeezing one just inside the right sideline to give MU a 21-16 lead.
Peters' rip down the left side set up match-point, 24-19, and she closed out he 25-19 win with an ace.
Misericordia took control of the third set with a 5-0 run thanks to two kills and two aces from McCaffrey for a 10-5 lead.
Two kills from
Cassandra Genduso keyed a 6-1 spurt that put MU up, 16-8.
McCaffrey and Genduso combined for a block along the right side to make it 19-12 and
Rachel LoFaso's kill inside the back line capped a long rally to extend the lead to 21-13.
Peters had MU's last two kills to clinch the 25-18 win.
