Jordan Carmosino scored 16 points to lead four players in the double figures as the Misericordia University women's basketball team defeated Elmira, 71-59, Wednesday night.

Ava Cirigliano added 14 points in her season debut and Emily Romanowski had 12 points and Lizzy Mitchell added 10.

Chase Purdy added eight points and eight assists while Romanowski and Mitchell tied for the team lead with five rebounds.

Carmosino connected on four of the team's 10 three-pointers and Cirigliano was 9-10 from the free throw line.

Elmira opened the game with a 7-0 run and led 18-15 after Mitchell closed the first quarter with a three-pointer.

Down 26-17 midway in the second quarter, the Cougars went on a 13-0 run over the final 6:30 of the period to go in front, 30-26.

Cirigliano scored six straight points over the final 2:03 to put MU in front for the first time.

Romanowsky and Carmosino hit back-to-back three-pointers as the Cougars stretched their lead to 48-37 with 3:09 left in the third period.

Elmira got within two points on a three-pointer early in the fourth quarter, but the Cougars responded and three-pointers from Mitchell and Cirigliano extended the lead to 65-54 with 3:38 to play.
