Susquehanna used a late third quarter run to break open a close game on the way to a 57-37 win over the Misericordia University women's basketball team, Tuesday night in the Anderson Center.
The River Hawks closed the third quarter on 10-2 run to extend a five-point lead into a 46-33 advantage.
Chase Purdy led the Cougars with 10 points while
Caitlin Landgraf and
Lizzy Mitchell had eight points each.
Emily Romanowski had seven points and a team-high nine assists.
Landgraf hit back-to-back jumpers in the opening quarter to give the Cougars a 6-3 lead with 7:05 to play.
Mitchell got a friendly roll on a three-pointer from the top of the key to make it 9-7 midway through the first period Purdy drained a three-pointer from in front of the Susquehanna bench for a 12-10 lead.
Susquehanna rallied to take a 16-14 lead after one period.
The Cougars were outscored 16-8 in the second quarter and trailed 32-22 at halftime.
Down 36-24 early in the third period, the Cougars went on a 7-0 run. Purdy took a nice bounce pass from Landgraf for a layup and Mitchell hit a deep three-pointer from the right wing.
Romanowski made two free throws to cut the margin to 36-31 with 6:37 to go in the third quarter, but Susquehanna scored 10 of the final 12 points of the period.
