MU Volleyball Drops Two at Swarthmore Tournament

The Misericordia University women's volleyball team dropped a pair of matches at the Phoenix Invitational, Friday at Swarthmore.

The Cougars dropped the opener, 3-1, to Swarthmore and fell in five sets to Skidmore.

Meghan Peters led the attack with 15 kills against Swarthmore while Jenna Schuda had 26 assists, 15 digs, two blocks and two aces.  Keira McCaffrey had four blocks and Maggie Duda had three aces.

Swarthmore won 25-20, 26-24, 14-25, 25-21.

After dropping the first set, the Cougars scored five straight points to take a 20-18 lead in the second set.

The Garnet rallied to score six of the final eight points to win, 26-24.

The Cougars scored six straight points to take a 12-7 lead in the third sets and Duda had three aces to key a 5-0 spurt to give MU a 22-12 lead.

Schuda had a kill between two Swarthmore errors to close out the 25-14 win.

The Cougars took the first two sets against Skidmore, 25-18, 25-21, but the Thoroughbreds rallied to win three straight sets, 25-23, 27-25, 15-3.

Madison Tullo had a team-high 12 kills and Peters and Rachel LoFaso had 10 each.

Schuda had 41 assists and two aces and Peters added 22 digs.

Two Skidmore errors broke a 9-9 tie and Tullo had three kills in a 5-1 run to give MU a 19-12 lead in the opener.

LoFaso had two more kills to stretch MU's lead to 22-16 and the Cougars closed the set on a pair of Skidmore errors.

MU took a 23-21 lead in the third set, but Skidmore answered with four straight points to stay alive with a 25-23 win.

Skidmore won three of the last four points to win the fourth set, 27-25, and closed the finale on a 13-1 run.

Misericordia will face Susquehanna, Saturday at 10:00 am.
