MU Men Down FDU on Doc Mould Court

The Misericordia University men's basketball team earned a hard-fought 89-80 victory over FDU-Florham on Saturday afternoon on Doc Mould Court.

Jack Gallagher led the Cougars with a double-double with 16 points and 10 rebounds while Arvel Chandler also posted a double-double with 13 points and 10 boards. Eli Stoute added 15 points and Will Anozie and D.J. Orloff chipped in 12 points apiece.

The game's first basket came two minutes in when Matt Prociak knocked down a three-pointer from the left wing. Prociak then forced a turnover on the defensive end, leading to a Darryl Wright three from the top of the key to give Misericordia an early 6-0 lead.

After FDU-Florham scored two quick baskets to cut the deficit, Prociak connected on another three, this time from the right wing, to extend the Cougars' lead to 9-4.

Misericordia trailed 18-17 with just under nine minutes remaining in the first half before Stoute converted back-to-back fastbreak layups to put the Cougars back in front, 21-18. With eight seconds left in the half, Chandler knocked down a turnaround jumper in the paint to give Misericordia a six-point advantage. However, the Devils beat the buzzer with a deep three, cutting the lead to three heading into halftime.

Chandler opened the second half with a layup high off the glass. After a quick basket by FDU-Florham, Gallagher displayed strong footwork with an up-and-under finish to give Misericordia a 46-41 edge.

Midway through the half, Gallagher converted two free throws to spark a 13-5 run, pushing the Cougars' lead to 73-62 with just under seven minutes remaining.

The Devils continued to battle, trimming the deficit to single digits with about two minutes left. With just over a minute remaining, Stoute knocked down two key free throws to extend the lead back to 10.

Misericordia then sealed the win at the line in the final minute to secure the 89-80 victory.

With the win, the Cougars improve to 11-4 overall and 3-1 in MAC Freedom play. Misericordia will travel to King's, Wednesday.
