Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Big Second Half Lifts MU Women Over FDU-Florham

The Misericordia University women's basketball team defeated FDU-Florham, 69–31, Saturday afternoon on Doc Mould Court.

Chase Purdy led the Cougars in scoring with 12 points while also grabbing seven rebounds. Caitlin Landgraf added 11 points, six rebounds and three assists. Emily Romanowski pulled down seven rebounds.

Misericordia scored the first points of the game on a Landgraf shot from the left block.

After a basket by FDU, the Cougars took the lead on a Morgan Janeski three-pointer from the left wing.

A layup by Purdy off an inbound pass made it 7-4 midway through the first quarter.

FDU scored the next few points to go ahead 10–8, but Misericordia closed the quarter on a 9–0 run.

A coast-to-coast layup by Sarah Dahl tied the game, followed by points from Purdy on a putback, a free throw, and a backdoor cut layup to give the Cougars a five-point lead, 15-10.

Free throws by Raegan Palmer closed the quarter with Misericordia holding a 17–10 advantage.

The Cougars continued their scoring run into the second quarter with Romanowski hitting a three-pointer from the left wing to open the period.

Lizzy Mitchell scored on a driving layup and added a free throw to make it 24-14 midway through the second quarter.

After a brief scoring run by the Devils, Landgraf connected on a baseline jumper and Purdy scored on a layup off a backdoor handoff to restore the double-digit lead.

Romanowski capped the quarter with a layup off a long offensive rebound, sending Misericordia into halftime with a 30–18 lead.

Misericordia's defense locked down FDU-Florham in the third quarter, allowing just five points.

The Cougars opened the quarter with a 7–0 run, sparked by a short jumper from the left block by Purdy, a Janeski three-pointer from the right wing, and a layup by Landgraf off a lob pass.

After FDU scored, Mitchell answered with a three-pointer from the right wing and Misericordia closed the quarter on a 12–0 run to extend the lead to 52-23.

Janeski scored on a layup and converted the ensuing free throw to extend the lead to 20. Ava Cirigliano followed with a layup off a backdoor pass and a three-pointer from the left corner to push the advantage to 25.

A layup by Purdy and free throws by Palmer extended the lead to 29 with 10 minutes remaining.

Caitlin Sweeney opened the fourth quarter with a three-pointer from the left corner.

Misericordia went on another 8–0 scoring run with a jumper by Landgraf in the paint, a putback by Cirigliano, a layup by Samantha Casey and a layup by Sweeney pushed the Cougars' lead to 38 points.

Jumpers by Bella Prado and Sweeney ended the game with a healthy win for Misericordia.
