The Misericordia University hockey team opened a two-game set against first-place Neumann with a 5-1 win, Friday night in Aston.
Abe Laggis,
Ryan Karbach,
William Moran,
Devin England and
Zachary Micciche all scored for MU… Laggis added an assist and
Eric Kotkowski had two assists.
Mason Jones made 25 saves in net and the Cougars were 6=6 on the penalty kill.
Laggis gave the Cougars an early lead with assists from
Jaron Ketterman and
Brendan Johnson at 4:51 of the first period.Â
Ketterman picked up the pick at his blue line and zig-zagged through the defense along the right boards and sent a back-handed pass in front were Laggis stuffed a shot inside the left post for a 1-0.
Neumann tied it three minutes later.
Karbach put MU back in front at 17:33 with assists from
Jonathan Lush and Laggis. Laggis played the puck from the right corner to Lush on the blue line where his blast was tipped in by Karbach to give the Cougars a 2-1 lead.
Moran scored at 13:01 of the second period to make it 3-1.Â
Corbin Schiebel gathered a loose puck in his own end a chipped a long pass to Moran who finished the breakaway inside the left post.
England extended the lead to 4-1 early in the third period with an assist from
Patrick Toomey. England took a pass at his own blue line and spun around a Neumann defender before flipping a wrist shot inside the right post.
Seconds after killing off a penalty, Micciche flicked a shot the length of the ice for an empty-net goal at 18:20.
