DeSales MBB Rallies Past Cougars

The Misericordia University men's basketball team fell at DeSales, 67–63, Saturday afternoon.

Matt Prociak led the Cougars with 18 points and four rebounds. Jack Gallagher recorded a double-double with 13 points and 11 rebounds while Eli Stoute added 11 points.

The Cougars led for most of the game and were up 50-34 with 11:32 to play before a 20-4 run by DeSales tied the game with 6:12 to go.

Misericordia opened the game on a 7–1 run. Arvel Chandler scored the Cougars first basket on a layup and Eli Stoute followed with a fastbreak layup.  Stoute knocked down a three-pointer from the left corner to give MU a six-point lead with 16:38 remaining in the first half.

After DeSales cut the deficit to three, Misericordia responded with seven straight points. Gallagher began the run with free throws and added a driving up-and-under layup.

Prociak capped the stretch with a three-pointer from the top of the arc, putting MU up by double digits with 14:07 left in the half.

DeSales answered with a run of its own, scoring 12 of the next 16 points to trim the Cougars lead to two with 9:16 remaining.

Misericordia answered with a 14–2 scoring run. Ryan Nasuti sparked the run with a three-pointer from the left corner. A Nate Townsend jumper from the restricted area, a Nasuti driving layup, and a pair of Gallagher free throws pushed MU back to a double-digit lead with just over seven minutes left.

Stoute added a one-handed jumper in front of the basket and Nasuti ended the run as it began, drilling another three-pointer, this time from the right corner, to give the Cougars a 32–18 advantage with 5:07 left.

DeSales cut into the lead before halftime, but Misericordia entered the break ahead 34–21.

Misericordia extended its lead to 16 early in the second half with free throws from Gallagher and Prociak and a Stoute layup off a long pass. DeSales cut the lead to 10, but the Cougars answered with a 9–3 run. Prociak opened the run with a three-pointer from the right wing, followed by a Daryll Wright fastbreak layup. Additional layups from Prociak and Wright gave MU a 50–34 lead with 11:32 remaining.

The Bulldogs then went on a large run, scoring 16 of the next 18 points to cut the deficit to two with 7:42 left.

A Prociak jumper from the left block put Misericordia ahead 54–50, but DeSales took the lead for the first time with 6:12 remaining. Free throws from Gallagher and Stoute briefly put the Cougars back in front, but DeSales closed the game strong, scoring 10 of the final 15 points to secure the win.
