The Misericordia University women's basketball team fell at DeSales, 74-38, Saturday afternoon.
Morgan Janeski led the Cougars with nine points.
Janeski got Misericordia on the board early in the first quarter, driving left and finishing at the rim to tie the game. Nearly two minutes later, she knocked down a three-pointer from the left corner to give the Cougars their only lead of the contest.
Late in the quarter,
Emily Romanowski went 1-for-2 from the free throw line to keep Misericordia within one, but DeSales answered with a three-pointer in the final 14 seconds to take a 15-11 lead into the second period.
Misericordia built momentum early in the second quarter as
Lizzy Mitchell forced a turnover and
Caitlin Landgraf converted the ensuing layup.
On the next possession,
Ava Cirigliano grabbed an offensive rebound and scored on a putback to tie the game at 15-15.
Midway through the quarter, however, the Cougars went cold and DeSales capitalized with a 10-1 run to take a 31-20 lead into halftime.
The Cougars opened the third quarter with five quick points to cut the deficit to six, but were unable to keep the momentum going as the Bulldogs went on another run and outscored the Cougars 22-9 heading into the fourth.
